Overview

RVR - Venice is a vibrant Japanese restaurant nestled on Abbot Kinney Blvd, a bustling spot in Venice, California. This lively izakaya-style eatery blends authentic flavors with a modern ambiance, making it a favored destination for both locals and visitors seeking a dynamic dining experience.

The heart of RVR lies in its thoughtfully curated menu. From the rich, house-made ramen varieties to meticulously crafted hand rolls, every dish reflects a deep respect for traditional Japanese cuisine while embracing creative twists. Signature highlights include the decadent Duck Tsukune meatballs, which offer a smoky charred flavor balanced by a spicy hot mustard. Their ramen options showcase a range of broths—from a savory pork and chicken blend to a delicate vegetable miso and even a luxurious Dungeness Crab version—with toppings that bring freshness and texture. Not to be missed are the seafood selections like the Wild Oita Kanpachi hand roll and fresh scallops, underscoring the restaurant’s commitment to quality ingredients.

RVR's brunch is equally compelling, featuring specialties like mochi beignets and black sesame pancakes that capture the playful side of Japanese comfort food. Diners have praised both the brunch and dinner menus for their balance of portion sizes suited to sharing and their bold, smoky flavors imparted by the charcoal grill.

The space itself is lively and intimate, with communal tables centered in the room where the energy hums from chefs to guests. This environment draws a diverse crowd—young professionals, local food enthusiasts, and couples looking for an upbeat date night. Though the venue can get bustling and loud, the attentive staff ensures service remains smooth and welcoming, even during peak hours.

Parking may require some planning as street spaces are limited and fill quickly, especially after 6:30 PM. Early reservations are advisable to secure your spot in this popular venue. Overall, RVR - Venice promises a memorable outing through its expertly blended cuisine, a spirited atmosphere, and dedication to delivering authentic yet inventive Japanese fare. Whether settling in for a casual brunch or a lively dinner, guests will find plenty to enjoy and discover on every visit.

We went to RVR based on some reels we found online and were very interested in the hype surrounding this restaurant. We did not have a reservation but we were there right when they opened. It was a Tuesday so we were able to get seated promptly. We chose to sit at a communal table that was located in the center of the restaurant where all the action was happening. The vibe of this place is quite hip and has a blend of clientele from young professionals to locals. We had a total of able 6 dishes. All entrees are meant to share and aren't large portions so for 2 people you need at least 6 dishes IMO. Absolutely loved the Duck Meatballs and the Fish Sando. The menu constantly changes so your items will vary. All the dishes were carefully prepared with a slight smokiness from the charcoal grill. I really liked this place. The service was top notch, food was unique and flavorful, and the drinks were great. Just an all around great vibe to this place and I will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area.

Delicious food and friendly service! We really enjoyed every dish on the weekend brunch menu, from the mochi beignets, house pickles, Wagyu beef tongue, duck meatballs, to what tasted like homemade gyozas! The portions were bigger than expected so we were pleasantly surprised. We had mixed opinions on the handrolls, mixed rice, and katsu sando but truthfully there were no misses except for the matcha beverage. Excited to go back for round 2 and hopefully many more :)

Got brunch here on Sunday and we were able to snag seats at the bar without reservations. We ordered the mochi beignets, karage, eggplant salad, uni handroll and the cosmo cocktail. The mochi beignets are actually pretty light and not heavy or too sweet. Overall very enjoyable. Karage and eggplant salad were also good. The uni handroll was just meh and I would suggest skipping it. For those who like sweet and yummy cocktails, the Cosmo was great. All in all a very delicious brunch!

An extremely popular and trendy izakaya spot in the heart of Venice. Jeremy Allen White of The Bear fame said in an interview that this place is where he had the best meal of 2025, and I have heard other good things from others as well. I can confirm that it is a great experience, although not in my personal top three, but I still really enjoyed dinner, the experience of the whole meal, and just the restaurant in general. Inside is medium sized, but it is absolutely packed with people so at times it can be really hard to hear someone sitting next to you. I would say this is a great date spot, but maybe not so for a work dinner. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot so it will be street parking which can be difficult to find, or you can do a pay lot. If possible come early because after 6:30 parking is hard to find. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast, basically things don’t come out in a structured order, they come out when they are ready. We chose: 1. Wild Suruki Sashimi - this was one of my favorite dishes of the night. It is packed with flavor, very light, and is a great starter. 2. Duck Meatballs - I enjoyed these more than I thought I would, but my favorite part of this dish was the hot mustard. 3. Boiled Shrimp Dumpling - we loved these. They were rich in flavor and just tasted really fresh and were more filling than expected. 4. Charred Broccolini - this was my favorite dish of the night. The creamy sesame was heavenly, and it was packed with garlic flavor and I just loved every bite. 5. Manila Clam Ramen - I would classify this as my main dish and thought it was pretty good. I liked some of the others more but this was really nice and I admit that I drank the liquid at the end. I think the small is perfect sized unless you get less dishes and specifically want to save room for this one. Overall, a really hip and lively izakaya option in a lively part of town. I would recommend as a great date spot, but just know you should get reservations far ahead and it’s going to be loud.

Had Saturday brunch here so pics included are of that. Super chill vibe compared to dinner. Menu is almost identical except for some brunch specials like black sesame pancake, mochi beignets, tamagoyaki omelette etc. Had an 11:30a res so we got a nice booth table for 3 ppl. Authentic izakaya - will def be back to try other menu items

One of the best meals my husband and I have had in a long time. Everything that came out was jaw dropping and cooked to perfection. The sweet potatoes and bok choy will be in my dreams. And the desserts were equally outstanding as all the food. Friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere.

This was a fantastic birthday dinner. Our waiter, Ben, was excellent and had a deep understanding of the menu and history. It was worth coming just for this. The food quality was very high and you can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Lots of options for vegetarians/pescatarians. The music is an eclectic mix.

The food was great and the staff were really friendly. Since the place is super popular, it was quite busy, so it took a bit of time to place our order and get the food. Otherwise a fun experience.
